Another significant change relating to insulation contained in recent amendments to the Building Code of Australia (BCA) is the requirement for insulation products to comply with the new Australian Standard AS/NZS 4859.1. It is the first insulation standard to cover all products on the market including glasswool, rockwool, cellulose fibre, polyester, sheepswool and reflective foil laminates.
The standard aims to ensure that manufacturer’s performance claims can be verified by independent laboratories and also requires more detailed disclosure information on the packaging. For reflective insulation products there are also requirements for manufacturers to state both summer and winter performance values where they differ.
